Terms of service
Effective September 28, 2026. Draft for launch: complete, and still to be reviewed by counsel before the site goes live on its own domain.
The short version: you give us a photo you have the right to use, we paint it in a style inspired by a real artist, you see it before you pay, and once you pay we print it for you and only you. Because it is made for one pet, there are no returns, but you can cancel until it ships, and a damaged or wrong piece is reprinted or refunded.
1. The agreement
These terms are a contract between you and PetPaintings, a trade name of Steel Dragon LLC, a Delaware limited liability company (“we”, “us”), covering classicalpetpaintings.com and everything you do there: browsing, uploading a photo, previewing, ordering, and using your account. By using the site you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the site. Our privacy policy is part of this agreement and says what we do with your data.
2. Who can use the service
You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to place an order, and at least 16 to upload a photo. By ordering you confirm you can enter a binding contract and that the payment method is yours to use.
3. Accounts and sign-in
You can browse and order as a guest. Previews need a verified email: sign in with Google, or with a one-time link we email you. There is no password, and the link expires in an hour. Keep your inbox and your Google account secure, because whoever opens the link or signs in there is signed in as you. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account. One person, one account; we may close accounts used to get around rate limits or these terms.
4. What the service does
You upload a photo of a pet. We crop it, run it through an image model with a style inspired by a real artist, and show you a low-resolution preview on a wall so you can judge the look and the size. You pick a product, size, and finish, and pay. After payment we render the final at print resolution, check it, and send it to a print partner who prints, frames, packs, and ships it. You can also order without a preview; we then paint from your photo after checkout and check the result before it prints.
We may refuse a photo we cannot make sense of, that shows a person, or that breaks section 12, and we say why on the page. We may change styles, products, and prices at any time; a change never affects an order you have already paid for.
5. Your photo and what you allow us to do with it
You keep every right you have in your photo. You confirm that you took it or have the owner's permission, that it shows your pet or a pet you are allowed to picture, and that it does not show an identifiable person. You give us a licence to store the photo, remove its metadata, crop it, send it to our model provider, and generate portraits from it, only to provide the service to you. That includes keeping the photo in your account so you can use it again, until you ask us to delete it, as the privacy policy says. We never use it to train a model, never show it publicly, and never send the original to the print partner.
6. The artwork and your licence to it
Portraits are generated by an image model from your photo and a style template inspired by a real artist. When you pay, we give you a perpetual, worldwide, personal licence to the portrait you bought: display it, print it for yourself, share it, give it as a gift, post it online. You may not sell it, licence it to others, use it in advertising or on products for sale, or claim you or anyone else painted it by hand. The style itself, the style template, and our previews stay ours and our artists'. We make no promise that AI-generated artwork is protected by copyright in your country, and we do not register it.
7. Orders, prices, and payment
- Prices are in US dollars and shown before tax. For delivery in the European Union, prices and shipping are in euros, the same amount. For delivery in the United Kingdom, Canada, or Australia, prices are in US dollars and the payment page shows and charges your local currency at Stripe's exchange rate. Sales tax is calculated by Stripe at checkout from your shipping address and shown before you pay.
- We ship to the United States, the countries of the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia; not every piece is sold to every country. Shipping is charged at the print lab's rate for your address, shown at checkout before you pay; orders within the United States over $100 ship free, except oversize pieces. Free shipping over $100 is for US orders only. Digital files ship free.
- Payment is taken in full at checkout through Stripe. We accept the cards and wallets Stripe offers on the checkout page. We do not store card numbers. If you choose to save a payment method at checkout, Stripe stores it, and you change it from your account.
- An order is accepted when you see the confirmation page and we email a receipt. Until then we may decline it, for example if the payment fails, the photo is refused, or there is an obvious pricing error, and nothing is charged or the charge is refunded in full.
- If you approved a preview, you confirm at checkout that the portrait is the one to print. If you ordered without a preview, you confirm that we paint from your photo after checkout and that our check, not your approval, decides whether it prints.
- Quantities are limited to five of a piece per order. Wholesale and licensing enquiries go to the contact address.
8. Made to order: cancellations and returns
Every piece is made for one pet after you pay, so it cannot be resold and there are no returns or exchanges for a change of heart. In exchange you can see the portrait before you pay, try any style free with a verified email, and:
- Cancel until it ships. Open the order in your account and cancel it while the cancel option shows. The full amount goes back to your original payment method; banks take 5 to 10 business days to show it. If the printer has already started when you cancel, we ask them to stop and tell you the outcome within one business day: a refund if they could stop, or the piece on its way if they could not.
- Damaged, wrong, or not as previewed: reprinted or refunded. See section 10.
Where consumer law gives you a right to cancel that these terms do not, that right applies. We note that in the EU and the UK the right to withdraw does not apply to goods made to your specification, which a portrait of your pet is.
9. Shipping and delivery
We ship to addresses in the United States. We aim to hand the piece to the carrier within 5 business days of payment, and most pieces arrive 4 to 6 business days after that (10 to 15 for a piece made outside the United States); these are estimates, not promises, and holiday periods run longer. You get a tracking link by email. Risk of loss passes to you on delivery to the address you gave. Check the address at checkout: a piece returned to us because of a wrong address is reshipped at cost, and a piece delivered to a wrong address you gave is not our error. If we cannot ship within 30 days of payment we tell you and you may cancel for a full refund.
10. Damaged, wrong, or mismatched pieces
Report it from the order in your account within 30 days of shipping. Tell us what went wrong; we reply within one business day and ask for photos of the print and the box, which is what the printer needs. We then reprint the piece free or refund it to your original payment method, our choice unless a reprint would have the same problem. A piece that arrived fine but differs from the preview you approved counts. A piece you ordered without a preview and simply do not like does not, because there was no preview to match; that is why previews are free.
11. Digital files
A digital file is delivered as a download on your order page within minutes of payment and is not refundable once downloaded, except where the file is defective. The licence in section 6 applies. We keep the file available for 90 days; save your copy.
12. What you may not do
- Upload a photo you do not have the right to use, or one that shows an identifiable person, including yourself.
- Upload anything unlawful, sexual, violent, or hateful, or use the service to harass anyone.
- Try to reproduce an artist's style outside the service, extract the style templates, or reverse-engineer the models or the site.
- Scrape the site, run automated previews, or get around the human check or the rate limits.
- Resell portraits or previews, or present AI-generated artwork as hand-painted.
- Interfere with the site's security or with other people's use of it.
We may refuse a photo, cancel an order (refunded in full), or close an account that breaks these rules.
13. Our intellectual property
The site, its design, the words, the icons, the sample portraits, the style templates, and the PetPaintings name are ours or licensed to us. Our artists own the styles they designed and are paid a royalty on every sale. Nothing here gives you a right to any of it beyond the licence in section 6. Icons are by Streamline under CC BY 4.0.
14. Third-party services
Checkout is provided by Stripe under Stripe's own terms. Printing and shipping are done by Printful, and by Prodigi for the Fine-art print and the Luxury canvas. Portraits are generated by Google's Gemini models or a fallback provider. We are not responsible for a third party's site or service.
15. Disclaimers
A preview is a picture on a screen and a print is ink on paper or cotton: colours differ slightly between the two and between devices, and the wall scene is a drawn approximation of size. The portrait is an interpretation of your photo in a style, not a photograph; a model can miss a detail, and that is what the preview is for. Except as these terms say and as the law requires, the service and every piece are provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
16. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for anything arising from an order is the amount you paid for that order, and for anything else arising from the site it is one hundred US dollars. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data, or goodwill. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
17. Indemnity
If someone claims that a photo you uploaded infringed their rights or showed them without permission, you will cover our reasonable costs and any damages that result, provided we tell you about the claim promptly and let you take part in the defence.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes go to the courts there, except that you keep any right to bring a claim in your own country's courts that consumer law gives you. Before going to court, write to us: most problems are a reprint or a refund away, and we answer within one business day.
19. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The effective date at the top moves when we do, and a change that matters to you, such as to cancellations or the licence, is emailed to the address on your account before it takes effect. The terms in force when you paid govern that order.
